Biodiesel refers to a diesel-equivalent processed fuel derived from biological sources (such as vegetable oils) which can be used in unmodified diesel-engine vehicles. It is thus distinguished from the straight vegetable oils (SVO) or waste vegetable oils (WVO) used as fuels in some diesel vehicles.
Grainet reported on 10 August that Western Dubuque Biodiesel, LLC has started biodiesel production from soybeans or other vegetable oils from their new plant, near Farley, Iowa, US.
The plant produces 30,000 million gallons per year of high quality biodiesel fuel.
According to ISA (Iowa Soybeans Association) the new biodiesel plant will be beneficial to soybeans farmers in Iowa, where Iowa is the largest soybean-producing state in US, with annual production of 500 million bushels. (source plant.info)
